A generational property blends ecological design with family friendly outdoor spaces.
Through purposeful design and planting strategies, a heavily disturbed property has been transformed into a vibrant, healthy environment that celebrates a diverse landscape while paying homage to family history. The husband, a retired schoolteacher and Master Gardener, envisioned a native landscape that supports birds and insects. The wife’s vision was to restore the land and celebrate her family’s long history with the property.
History is brought to life along the driveway where redbuds were planted as they were in the past.
The clients preferred to minimize manicured lawn and establish a meadow. The geometry and tone of the singular lawn space provide a strong contrast to the dynamic textures and colors of the surrounding landscape. When the meadow is in full bloom, the lawn is hidden as you approach the home, coming into view as you descend into the garden.
Nestled behind the home is a patio built with stone quarried and cut in Tennessee. A boulder fountain provides gentle background noise and trees shade a seating area large enough for the entire family to gather.
